2 December: International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

Today, December 2, is the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, a date created by the United Nations (UN) in 2004 to mark the signing of the United Nations Convention on the Suppression of Trafficking of Persons and the Exploitation of Prostitution.
