Ombudsperson participates in the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the IOI

The Ombudsperson, Maria Lúcia Amaral, participated in the Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) which held its annual meeting from 7 to 11 May 2023, in Vienna.

In addition to organizational issues and strategic priorities, the IOI Council received and heard from the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dymtro Lubinet.

On the sidelines of the event, the Ombudsman and her British, Belgian, Dutch and Greek counterparts met with Michael O’Flaherty, Director of the FRA – European Fundamental Rights Agency, based in the Austrian capital.

Established in 1978, the IOI is the only organization with a global vocation for Ombudsman cooperation, with activities decentralized throughout six Regions – including Europe, where the Portuguese Ombudsman is located.

Maria Lúcia Amaral was elected, in 2020, to the Board of the European Region and, simultaneously, to the IOI’s international Board of Directors.
