Ombudsman attends General Assembly and Congress of FIO – Ibero-American Ombudsperson Federation in Asunción
The Portuguese Ombudsman was represented at the XXIX General Assembly and XVIII Congress of the Ibero-American Ombudsperson Federation (FIO), which took place in Asunción, Paraguay, on 29-31 October. The Portuguese delegation was made up of Ricardo Carvalho, Head of Office, and Cristina Sá Costa, Advisor to the Law and International Relations Office.
The central theme of this year’s Congress was ‘Global human rights challenges: the environment, the right to water and climate change, indigenous peoples and justice for women’. The agenda also included meetings of the FIO Rector’s Council, the governing body that includes the President and five Vice-Presidents, and of the FIO Thematic Networks and Working Groups.
In solidarity with the victims of the climate disaster in various regions of Spain, FIO members released a statement of condolence, which can be read here.
