Ombudsperson receives Georgian counterpart
On 3 and 4 June, the Ombudsman, Mária Lúcia Amaral, received a delegation from Georgia, led by Ombudsman Levan Ioseliani, for a working visit that culminated in the signing of a cooperation agreement on the promotion and protection of human rights.
This visit to Portugal, which allowed for an intense exchange of experiences and good practices, was organised as part of the European Union project ‘Support for the Georgian Ombudsman’s Office’.
Over the course of two days, they learnt about the institution, its scope of action and working methods, with a special focus on the management and treatment of the complaints that come to the Ombudsman’s Office on a daily basis, namely in the areas of justice, migration, health and the environment.
It was also explained how the National Prevention Mechanism works to prevent torture and other ill-treatment in Portugal.
