Ombusdman participates in the consultation of the United Nations Network on the Global Compact for Migration

The Ombudsman participates in the consultation of the United Nations Network on the implementation of the Global Pact for Migration, adopted in December 2018 in Marrakesh.

The National Human Rights Institutions will play an important role in the implementation of this instrument, which aims to promote safe, orderly and regular migrations worldwide. It will be up to all of them, and therefore also the Ombudsman, to ensure that the aims of this instrument will be pursued with respect for human rights. The monitoring role of governments in the area of migration and the development of dialogue with the United Nations Migration Network will therefore be essential.

The consultation took place in Geneva on April 4, 2019, and the Ombudsman was represented by the Adviser to the Cabinet Ana Rita Gil.
